My Name is Derek Draper, I was raised in a family of 6 in Hooper and graduated from Roy High School. After graduating high school I joined the United States Army where I served 3 years in Germany and was deployed to Southwest Asia. I was in the 3rd Infantry Division and was assigned as a Tanker (19K). I received an honorable discharge and my current status is a Disabled Veteran. I came back to Utah where I was hired at Ogden City Police Department. The assignments I did were Patrol, Traffic, Gang Unit, and the Weber-Morgan Narcotics Strike Force. Some awards I received were the Weber Morgan Narcotics Medal of Honor, (2) Ogden Police Medal of Valor, (2) Ogden Police Distinguished Service Award Unit Citations, B.L.O.C. Medal of Honor, and numerous Excellent Work Awards. I retired from the Ogden Police Department in 2015.
My time as a Police Officer taught me a lot about life, hardship, pain, evil, drugs, and how all of these erode the family unit. This has helped shape my belief in GOD, Family, and Country. I believe that our Constitution is one of the greatest documents ever written. I believe in the 2nd Amendment.
With 5 children and 4 grandchildren, I believe that having more community emphasis placed on these values (GOD, Family, and Country) will positively impact our next generation.
Since finding Jesus Christ and through the power of repentance, I am an unapologetic follower of Jesus Christ. I believe God has blessed me with my family, for they are all angels who have helped me along this journey we call life. My wife Tori is my biggest supporter and always guides me in the right direction, even when I go off track. Tori has saved me so many times and I owe her everything.
I travel most of Congressional District 1 on my weekly Harley Davidson ride. I am a fair-weather rider now but enjoy seeing our beautiful countryside as much as I can.
My political stances are COMMON SENSE.
